Healthy vagal nerve tone is indicated by a slight increase of heart rate when you inhale and a decrease in heart rate when you exhale. 


The ability to reduce your heart rate and blood pressure during times of stress/anxiety can be directly linked to being conscious of your breath throughout the day.
